Module Feature

IZMX40H3-V16W is a withdrawable 3-pole air circuit breaker from Eaton IZMX40 product family.

It features 1600A frame rated current and H high breaking capacity grade, Icu=105kA at 440V AC. It is fitted with PXR20 electronic trip unit, supporting LSI selective protection, earth fault protection, local measurement and alarm display. It adopts compact frame design, stored-energy spring operating mechanism and mechanical plus electrical interlock for safe racking operation. Optional accessories include motor charging assembly, auxiliary contacts and communication module. It is widely used in industrial power plants, oil & gas skids and large commercial power centres for main bus and bus-section protection spare replacement.

Working principle

Built-in current transformers collect three-phase current signals and transmit data to the PXR20 trip unit.

When the monitoring logic detects overload, short-circuit or earth fault beyond the preset threshold, the trip unit activates the release mechanism to separate the main contacts and cut off fault current. It records fault type, fault current and timestamp locally, and uploads real-time electrical data to the power monitoring system through communication module.

Onboard components

Silver alloy main contact assembly, arc extinguishing chamber, spring operating mechanism, CT group, PXR20 electronic trip unit, drawout carriage, racking interlock assembly, auxiliary contact block, status LED array, communication transceiver circuit.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate power supply status, spring charged state, fault trip alarm and communication link health.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Continuous supervision detects trip unit power loss, CT circuit failure, internal over-temperature and communication interruption. Fault codes and event logs can be viewed on local display or Eaton Power Xpert commissioning software.

Programming software

Eaton Power Xpert Commissioning Tool, used for protection curve setting, metering configuration, communication parameter setup and fault record analysis.

Installation

Install the breaker into matched IZMX drawout cassette. Torque primary bus terminals properly, test racking interlock, spring charging and protection trip function before energizing.

Interface

Primary power connection terminals, secondary control terminals, Ethernet communication port.

Diagnostic

Unexpected trip: Improper protection setting, CT wiring error or transient electrical interference. Cannot close: Discharged spring, no control voltage or interlock locked. Communication dropout: Damaged network cable or inconsistent network parameters.
