Products Description

Rohde & Schwarz SR 8000 FM Transmitter Unit

Module Feature

SR 8000 is Rohde & Schwarz classic solid-state VHF FM transmitter family for FM broadcast service. It adopts modular architecture composed of SU800 digital exciter, RF power amplifier unit, switching power supply and integrated control board.

It supports both analog MPX stereo multiplex signal and AES/EBU digital audio input. Air cooling design, high frequency stability and low spurious emission. It supports remote monitoring and control via web interface and SNMP protocol, can form 1+1 or N+1 hot standby redundant broadcast system with NetCCU800 switch unit. Compact 19” rack form factor, easy for installation and maintenance in broadcast station.

Working principle

Audio or MPX signal enters the exciter module, digital signal processing completes stereo encoding and FM modulation to generate RF carrier signal.

The modulated low-power RF signal is amplified step by step by solid-state power amplifier modules to reach rated transmit power, and finally output to antenna feeder system. The internal controller continuously monitors forward power, reflected VSWR, temperature and operating status, and triggers protection interlock when fault occurs.

Onboard components

SU800 digital exciter, RF power amplifier module, DC power supply unit, cooling fan assembly, controller board, RF combiner, VSWR sampling circuit, audio signal interface board.

LED indicators

Front panel LED indicators for power, exciter ready, RF output active, VSWR alarm, over-temperature and system fault.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Self-diagnosis covers audio input loss, exciter anomaly, amplifier overcurrent, high VSWR, over-temperature, fan failure and power supply abnormality. Fault logs can be viewed on local panel or remote web page.

Programming software

Rohde & Schwarz broadcast station control software for audio configuration, RF power setting, alarm threshold setup, SNMP parameter configuration and firmware upgrade.

Diagnostic

No RF output: Exciter fault, power amplifier failure or interlock protection triggered.

High VSWR alarm: Antenna feeder damage, connector loose or antenna short/open circuit.

Audio distortion: Audio level overrange, wrong MPX setting or exciter parameter drift.

Over-temperature shutdown: Fan fault, dust blockage on radiator or poor cabinet ventilation.
