Products Description

DIGIPHONE Seba Dynatronic Cable Fault Pinpoint Receiver Unit

Module Feature

DIGIPHONE is the acoustic fault pinpoint receiver developed by Seba Dynatronic (Megger group), widely used together with surge wave generator for underground high-voltage cable flashover fault pinpointing.

It captures two signals at the same time: explosion acoustic wave generated by flashover discharge and electromagnetic pulse from discharge current. The internal circuit calculates the time difference between sound and magnetic signal to judge fault direction and distance. Integrated BNR background noise reduction filter suppresses site ambient noise; APM automatic proximity mute function eliminates impact noise when operator touches the sensor probe. The handheld sensor design is anti-shock and waterproof, suitable for road, soil and concrete pavement field test. It is widely stocked as maintenance spare for power bureau, industrial park and oil field cable testing workshop.

Working principle

Surge generator applies high voltage impulse to cable fault point, breakdown discharge produces shock wave sound and transient magnetic field.

The sensor picks up acoustic vibration and magnetic pulse synchronously. If fault is directly below the probe, sound and magnetic signal arrive almost simultaneously; if fault is offset, obvious time difference will appear, and the device gives left/right direction indication. Noise filter algorithm filters continuous background noise such as traffic and machinery, only retains the characteristic discharge sound of fault point.

Onboard components

Vibration acoustic sensor, magnetic induction coil, signal amplification circuit, digital time difference calculation chip, BNR noise suppression unit, APM proximity detection sensor, headset audio output module, status LED array and rechargeable battery pack.

LED indicators

Indicator LED shows power status, signal capture, sound-magnetic coincidence lock and low battery warning.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Built-in self-check for sensor circuit, battery voltage and audio output. Regular calibration checks time difference accuracy and magnetic channel sensitivity. Configuration and test report management are completed by Seba dedicated cable test management software.

Programming softwareSeba cable fault test management software, used for test record saving, fault point data archiving and test report generation.
