Products Description

VMIC VMIVME-5531M Reflective Memory Interface Board

Module Feature

VMIVME-5531M is a single-slot 6U VMEbus reflective memory node board developed by VMIC (GE Automation), compatible with VMIC 5530M, VMIPCI-5565 and VMIPMC-5565 reflective memory series, supporting mixed VME / PCI / PMC ring network construction. It adopts VME64 bus interface, supporting A16/A24/A32 addressing and D08/D16/D32, BLT, MBLT64 block transfer modes, can work as VME slave or VME system controller. Onboard high-speed SDRAM serves as shared reflective memory, available in 128 MB / 256 MB memory configurations. ST multimode fiber interface runs at 2.12 Gbaud serial rate, maximum transmission distance 300 m, one fiber ring can accommodate up to 256 independent nodes. When the VME host writes data to local onboard memory, dedicated hardware automatically replicates data to all other nodes on the fiber ring without TCP/IP protocol stack overhead. Dual independent DMA channels realize bulk high-speed data transmission to reduce host CPU load. Programmable network interrupt allows any node to send event interrupt notification to remote nodes. Built-in CRC error detection and BIT diagnostic circuit continuously monitors optical signal, memory parity and data integrity, latches fault information in status register. Node bypass relay keeps the ring network operating normally when a single node fails. Rugged single Eurocard PCB with conformal coating, shock and vibration screened for power plant cabinet environment, widely used in gas/steam turbine distributed control,hardware-in-loop real-time simulation, aerospace test and semiconductor real-time control VME chassis.

Working principle

From the perspective of VME host CPU, onboard memory of VMIVME-5531M appears as standard physical memory address space. Once VME master writes data to this memory region, reflective memory ASIC captures write operation, packages data and broadcasts it over fiber ring to every node on the network. Hardware on remote nodes automatically refreshes local shared memory copy. All data synchronization is completed by dedicated hardware to realize ultra-low deterministic latency. Interrupt message channel implements cross-node event notification. BIT circuit detects optical signal loss and CRC check error to judge communication quality. VME FPGA completes bus address decoding, PIO and DMA data handshake between VME host and reflective memory controller.
