Products Description

VMIC VMIVME-2528 Digital I/O Turbomodule

Module Feature

VMIVME-2528 is a double-height 6U VMEbus turbomodule developed by VMIC (GE Fanuc / Abaco Systems). It delivers total 128 TTL-compatible bi-directional digital I/O lines, divided into sixteen independent 8-bit ports. Each port can be individually configured as input or output via onboard jumper settings. Output driver supports 24 mA sink and 6.5 mA source per channel; logic polarity (high-true / low-true) is also configurable by jumper. The board adopts high-quality multilayer ground plane and alternating ground pins on I/O connectors to boost noise immunity for noisy industrial test environments. Address mapping is set via twelve DIP switches for A16 short supervisory / nonprivileged I/O space. Data transfer supports both 8-bit and 16-bit VME cycles. Upon power-up,all outputs default to tristate mode; writing to the final port register releases tristate control. I/O signals are routed out through four DIN41612 mass connectors P3, P4, P5, P6 for external cabling and rear breakout panels. Built-in BIT diagnostic reads back register values to verify transceiver and port circuit integrity. Rugged PCB with conformal coating, shock and vibration screened for power plant cabinet environment, widely used in gas/steam turbine multi-point discrete sequence control, aerospace ground test bench and hardware-in-loop real-time simulation VME chassis.

Working principle

VME master processor sets each port direction via hardware jumpers. For output ports,CPU writes digital logic values to port registers to drive TTL output transceivers. For input ports, hardware latches external TTL signal levels for VME bus readout. BIT test writes predefined logic patterns to output ports and reads back to validate channel operation. VME interface FPGA handles DIP-switch base address decoding, register access and VME handshake. The continuous ground plane reduces common-mode noise coupling on multi-channel signal cables. At power-up,hardware clear signal forces all outputs to high-impedance tristate condition to prevent unintended actuation of field devices.

Onboard components

VME interface FPGA,sixteen ×8-bit I/O port register bank,TTL transceiver array,port direction jumper bank,logic polarity selection jumpers,twelve DIP address selection switches,high-performance ground plane,BIT pattern readback hardware,VME J1/J2 backplane edge connector,P3/P4/P5/P6 DIN41612 I/O mass connectors.

LED indicators

No dedicated per-channel LEDs; port and fault status can be retrieved by BIT register readback over VME bus.

Hardware self-diagnosis

Visual inspection of PCB,components and solder joints;board ID register readback verification;BIT pattern write-read loopback test for all 128 channels;VME A16 register communication validation;connector pin continuity check.

Programming software

VMIC universal I/O driver UIOD,supports VxWorks,Linux and QNX real-time operating systems;software tool for port status readout, logic polarity setup and BIT fault log reading.
