Module Feature

SIEB & MEYER FC80, part number 021803002X, is rack plug-in high-frequency spindle frequency converter. Designed to drive sensor-equipped synchronous spindle motors. Rated input 1x230/250V, output power 3.8kVA, continuous output current 11.0A. It supports high output frequency for ultra-high spindle rotational speed, stable speed regulation and low torque ripple. Integrated multi-level current, voltage and temperature monitoring and protection. Compact rack plug-in design with good EMC performance. Widely used in PCB routing, CNC milling and semiconductor processing equipment. This is legacy series drive.

Working principle

Single-phase AC input is rectified into DC bus inside module. IGBT power stack converts DC bus into adjustable amplitude and high-frequency three-phase AC to drive synchronous spindle motor. It continuously samples motor encoder feedback signal to realize closed-loop speed and position control. When overcurrent, overvoltage or overtemperature fault detected, drive immediately cuts off IGBT output and transmits fault signal to rack control system for safety interlock.

IGBT power stack, DC-link capacitor bank, current sampling circuit, encoder feedback interface, control processor, temperature sensor, power terminal block X1-X8, gold finger backplane connector, LED status indicator array.

Front panel LED indicators for module power, drive ready, spindle enable, running status and fault code display.

Hardware self-diagnosis

Visual inspection of module housing, terminals and backplane gold fingers; measure DC bus voltage; check spindle motor cable insulation and continuity; read LED fault codes; inspect built-in cooling fan and heat sink for dust accumulation.

Function

Installation

Follow lockout/tagout safety procedure before installation. Cut off all rack power completely. Insert module into designated rack slot and lock handle securely, confirm stable backplane contact. Wire spindle power cable and encoder feedback cable to X terminals. Set spindle parameters and perform auto-tuning via SIEB & MEYER commissioning software, test spindle rotation before formal operation.

Diagnostic

No power LED: Missing AC input, blown input fuse or input wiring fault. Drive not ready: Pre-charge fault, damaged DC capacitor or backplane communication error. Overcurrent alarm: Spindle motor winding short, damaged power cable or mechanical jam. Overheat alarm: Cooling fan failure, clogged heat sink or high ambient temperature. Speed deviation fault: Damaged encoder, loose feedback cable or incorrect parameter setting.
